Holes

Mick.  My dear sweet 4 and 1/2 year old.  Lovable to a fault.  Mick likes holes.  Any kind.  At the Easter egg hunt last month, he collected about 15 plastic eggs, and then he found a hole in the ground on the field and promptly stuffed his eggs, one by one, down the hole.  Not a big candy guy - but he sure does love to make things disappear!  Not sure where that hole goes - hope it isn't the main line to anything important on base!

We buy clear kitchen trash bags ever since I found my wallet in the kitchen trash awhile back.

Last year, I noticed that the house across the street had workmen digging a huge hole in their yard.  Their water was cut off for 3 days (in July).  I assumed there was some sort of plumbing problem, and really really hoped they wouldn't find a Barbie or something plugging their pipes.  Courtesy of the little boy who lived across the street.  I didn't confess this to them until I learned they were having some sort of sewage backup unrelated (or so they said) to anything from our side of the street.  Phew.  P.U.

Now my cell phone is missing.  I just replaced it a few weeks ago after the last one turned up missing (why do people say, "turned up missing"?  If it turned up, it is no longer missing, right?)  Anyhow, despite a week of  prayers to St Anthony, I didn't find it.  It had been malfunctioning periodically anyhow, and I had replacement insurance, so I ordered a new one.  Red.  A nice little camera phone that all my children have taken photos on, but I have yet to learn how.  There is a hole in our kitchen wall where the pantry doorknob went through the plaster (after the door thing that is supposed to prevent this from happening snapped off).  I have bought hole patch stuff, but haven't gotten around to fixing it yet (too busy looking for our dream house).  Yesterday, I caught Mick dropping a small plastic Elmo down the hole.  It occured to me that my cell phone might be down there too.  Maybe both of my cell phones are down there!  I stuck the shop vac* hose as far as I could down the hole, and didn't even retrieve poor Elmo.  Now I am trying to figure out if it is worth trying to cut a hole nearthe baseboard to see if I can find anything.  Just another thing to repair before we move!  And, alas, it isn't the only hole in the house.  We might have a plethora of small objects in the area beneath our staircase.  I will never know......

I was running in and out of the house a couple of weeks ago, between errands and appts.  I had stopped home to use the bathroom and called Tim at work to see if he wanted to meet me for lunch.  He didn't answer his office phone, but called later that afternoon and said he was relieved that I answered his call, because he had a message on his phone that sounded like a flushing toilet, and then the phone went dead.  He thought Mick might have hit the redial button, then flushed the phone.  A very real possibility in this house.

* Purchased to aid in removing loose Kibbles and Bits and various other items that found their way into the air conditioning vent in the kitchen floor.  No phones down there, unless they are past the kink in the vent.

It's a darn good thing that he is so cute.
