Step on a crack, and ............

When we were walking around at Busch Gardens last week, from behind me, Megan asked "Mommy, does your back hurt?" I had been having some back pain periodically, and blaming it on a bad mattress, but I said to her, "Actually, no. It feels fine. Why?" And she said, "Because I've been stepping on all the cracks!".

Nice...........

A Good Man

I married a good man.  Tim is currently on his way to Cherry Point to welcome some marines back from their tour in Iraq.  They will be joining 2/10 for a bit. He expects to get home about 5 tomorrow morning.   He spent nearly 3 of the rainiest weeks in April training in the field at Ft Bragg.  3 days later, we left for our whirlwind spring break in VA, when we accomplished so much and managed to have some family fun, too!  On Friday, after his morning meeting, he left for Raleigh to witness one of his Marines' swearing in as a US citizen.  On the way back from there, they came upon a horrific traffic accident, and he and his XO and their driver assisted until EMS got there.  He had issues to deal with at the office upon his return, and he leaves tomorrow morning around 9 for Colorado, where he will be attending a funeral for a former 2/10 Lietuenant who was killed in Iraq last week.  He is in the midst of prepping for his BN to go to fleet week in NYC for Memorial Day and he will change command and close on our house mid June.  As they say, there is no rest for the weary!  However, aside from expressing how tired he is, he does not complain.  He strives to be everything for everyone - a good commander, a good Marine, a good husband, father, son and provider.  He remains my hero.

Life is Good!

We got back from our house hunting trip just under an hour ago.  Everyone is asleep, and I am hyped up on caffeine from the coffee I drank 3 hours ago!  I just finished balancing my checkbook and am happy to say there is a little money in there.

Our trip was incredibly successful.  We put an offer on my # 1 house (which I have had my eye on since it was listed a month ago), and it was accepted!  The price was fair, and we have submitted all necessary paperwork for the mortgage.  We looked at about 25 houses, and this one remained our favorite.  5 bedrooms, a rec-room for the kids, 2 car garage, renovated kitchen, and a large fenced in yard. The house is big enough, but not too big.  I am equally excited about and terrified of the 18 x 32 foot in ground pool in the backyard.  I will be calling for safety fence estimates starting on Monday!  The guy I called while we were still there said they don't service Stafford.  The best thing is, I was able to meet the lady who owns the house today, during the inspection.  She was lovely, and asked us if we wanted several items to convey, including two desks, and the wrought iron gazebo and canopy that is on the deck.  She told me that Santa Claus comes down the street every Christmas Eve, and for the price of $1 per child, he will call out the kids' names and deliver gifts to them!  How cool is that?  She said our subdivision is famous for that.  And guess what?!  THE BUS STOP IS AT THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY!!!!!  The house has been lovingly cared for, and it was nice to meet the person responsible!  We have a good feel for the neighborhood, and the house.  It passed the inspection with just minor items needing attention.

In one week, we looked at houses, put an offer on one house, went to the DC zoo, had dinner with our friends who also have 9 kids, signed a purchase contract, had the house inspected, got haircuts, and went to Busch Gardens.   All in all, a very successful trip.  Now I have to concentrate on getting this house ready for us to move out of.

Makes me tired just thinking about it.......

Holes

Mick.  My dear sweet 4 and 1/2 year old.  Lovable to a fault.  Mick likes holes.  Any kind.  At the Easter egg hunt last month, he collected about 15 plastic eggs, and then he found a hole in the ground on the field and promptly stuffed his eggs, one by one, down the hole.  Not a big candy guy - but he sure does love to make things disappear!  Not sure where that hole goes - hope it isn't the main line to anything important on base!

We buy clear kitchen trash bags ever since I found my wallet in the kitchen trash awhile back.

Last year, I noticed that the house across the street had workmen digging a huge hole in their yard.  Their water was cut off for 3 days (in July).  I assumed there was some sort of plumbing problem, and really really hoped they wouldn't find a Barbie or something plugging their pipes.  Courtesy of the little boy who lived across the street.  I didn't confess this to them until I learned they were having some sort of sewage backup unrelated (or so they said) to anything from our side of the street.  Phew.  P.U.

Now my cell phone is missing.  I just replaced it a few weeks ago after the last one turned up missing (why do people say, "turned up missing"?  If it turned up, it is no longer missing, right?)  Anyhow, despite a week of  prayers to St Anthony, I didn't find it.  It had been malfunctioning periodically anyhow, and I had replacement insurance, so I ordered a new one.  Red.  A nice little camera phone that all my children have taken photos on, but I have yet to learn how.  There is a hole in our kitchen wall where the pantry doorknob went through the plaster (after the door thing that is supposed to prevent this from happening snapped off).  I have bought hole patch stuff, but haven't gotten around to fixing it yet (too busy looking for our dream house).  Yesterday, I caught Mick dropping a small plastic Elmo down the hole.  It occured to me that my cell phone might be down there too.  Maybe both of my cell phones are down there!  I stuck the shop vac* hose as far as I could down the hole, and didn't even retrieve poor Elmo.  Now I am trying to figure out if it is worth trying to cut a hole nearthe baseboard to see if I can find anything.  Just another thing to repair before we move!  And, alas, it isn't the only hole in the house.  We might have a plethora of small objects in the area beneath our staircase.  I will never know......

I was running in and out of the house a couple of weeks ago, between errands and appts.  I had stopped home to use the bathroom and called Tim at work to see if he wanted to meet me for lunch.  He didn't answer his office phone, but called later that afternoon and said he was relieved that I answered his call, because he had a message on his phone that sounded like a flushing toilet, and then the phone went dead.  He thought Mick might have hit the redial button, then flushed the phone.  A very real possibility in this house.

* Purchased to aid in removing loose Kibbles and Bits and various other items that found their way into the air conditioning vent in the kitchen floor.  No phones down there, unless they are past the kink in the vent.

It's a darn good thing that he is so cute.
